The tale of Crysania
“A Sorcereress must walk the dark paths of the Realm of Chaos, the deep pits of the oceans and the bowls of the fiery mountains in her quest for knowledge. The channeling of the raw Winds of Chaos is what gives the Sorceress her power. The Creatures of the Chaos Hells will bow to her will in the end. - From the sixth book of secrets by Kaladhtoir of Clar Karond
I have the gift. I am, so to speak, born with a silver spoon in my mouth. But, if we use this example, that spoon was filled with splinters and ice cold. The day were i was born to the day were I am now haven’t been easy. I am Crysania, son of Aegras, and user of the dark arts. This is a tale of might and power. Bust, most importantly, about magic.
Right from the beginning there were problems. My mother, Shania, died under the childbirth. Of course, this didn’t tear much on my father Aegras. They were married for political reasons. You see, my fathers House Uthorin and my mothers House Belmadon were in a feud, and House Belmadon was nearing extinction. Therefore the two houses made a peace agreement. House Belmadon should give all its possessions to House Uthorin, and be servants of House Uthorin. That was the only alternative to death. To seal this agreement Shania and Aegras were married. The only problem there was with the death of my mother was, that i was raised only by my father. And i father’s passion was war.
I didn’t like to fight with weapons, which my father tried to teach me. That was, after all, the only thing he knew. In the night, when i was alone, i instead used me mind to get things happen. Even though my childhood education wasn’t on a big level, i was educated enough to know that this was magic. Therefore I in the age of 87 ran away from home. I ran to the only city I knew I could get education – Naggarond. The Tower of Chill. Bastion of Malakith. My first impression of the city was, that I felt submissiveness. I saw the multitude of great towers, facing towards the heaven, as it were challenging the gods. In the city I found what I searched for – The school of Dark Magic. I was taken in as apprentice. In this school you have to go for a hundred years. After that there is a test. Ultimately you shall see Malekith which, in the end, will judge if you’re worthy or not.
There isn’t much to say about the first hundred years. We were teached in the lore of dark magic. A few of the students didn’t survive these hundred years, they died under experiments. But the interesting part come when the test begin. The test. It is hard to say it loud. When I need to say the word, I can hardly whisper it.
I got my test after the 100 years had past. I were at the principal of the school, a very old woman said to have lived even before the First War Of Betrayal. “Your task is simple,” she told me. “Hard but simple. You will, as the Sixth Book Of Secrets say, go into the fiery mountains and deep oceans. And you will gather proves that you’ve been there. In the end, you will go to The Inevitable City, and there you will meet the final challenge.”
I drove from Naggarond a cold and harsh autumn morning. The goal was clear: I would travel to The World’s Edge Mountains. The other end of the world. I traveled by a rented galley a long way, all the way to the Sea of Chaos. The crew were battle-hardened corsairs. It was my intention to keep going eastward towards the Sea of Claws, and from there walk the rest of the way. One night while the corsairs, who manned the ship, were sleeping, it happened. We were under fire. An empire patrol-boat, which should spot if any chaos marauders were attacking The Empire, found us. They instantly attacked our galley. It was a rather small 2-pyloned ship designed to quickly observe, make a move and then flee if necessary. They fired their three great cannons at us with a massive sound. Two of them luckily missed, but the third cannonball hit the deck of our galley. The well-trained corsairs woke instantly when they heard the sound, and manned their positions. The empire got another salve at us. One of them missed, while another one hit the deck. The last one, however, went right into our hull, making a leak for the water to get in. By then the corsairs were in place, ready to fire our 5 reaper bolt throwers. I nodded, and they fired. It sounded like 5 giant cranes which all took off on the same time. The five giant arrows all hit the hull of the empire ship, with a precision only elves can deliver. The ship leaked much water very fast. Another wave of cannonballs hit the deck of our ship, killing a few corsairs. Our reaper bolt thrower were repeated, and shot another wave of arrows. However, not like last time. 30 smaller arrows were all shot of, releasing a concert of screams from there. Their ship didn’t even have time to flee, it sank too quickly.
After this unpleasant surprise the rest of the water trip went easily. I arrived safely at the shore at the far end of the Sea of Claws. I began to walk my long way to the Worlds Edge mountains. Through Kislev and The Empire it quickly went. Over high mountains and through deep forests. I were close to Karak Kadrin, when suddenly I were attacked by half a dozen of slayers. I were an aspirant in dark magic by then, but after a 100 years you have learned a trick or 2. I mumbled a few words, while moving my fingers with quick movements. I like to say it’s a dance and the mumbling is music. Suddenly the slayers stopped up, as a breath of chilling air hit their bare bodies. I used their delay to my advantage, casting my next slightly more complicated spell. A bolt of utterly darkness flew from my hands, engulfed two of the dwarves. They opened their mouth to make a scream, that never came. They both felt to the ground. The rest of the slayers got renewed powers from seeing their friends get murdered, and they charged towards me. I knew I should think fast, and before I knew of it I had said the word of pain. The 4 remaining slayers suddenly screamed in pain, but where even normal dwarves would have fled in terror, these were different. They were slayers. They kept going on to me. With another doombolt, I were with only 2 remaining that was over at me. One of them chopped me in my arm with his great axe. I screamed in pain, and took a good hold at my staff. The staff were only wooden – Only sorceresses which has passed the test get a metal staff. I used the training I had from my father. Normally, these dwarves would have beaten me easily, but because they had so much pain they could barely swing their axes. I hit one in the head and then stroke backwards, hitting the other dwarf in the midriff. While he tried to get his breath again, I made a quick series of strokes, leaving the first unconscious. I felt a burning pain in my back, as the second slayer hit me there. With great anger I pointed my fingers at him. The dwarf stopped up and got an empty look. Small pearls of a white fog-like substance came from his body to mine. My wounds closed slowly, leaving the dwarf with the same wounds. One on the back and one on the arm. With the 6 dead slayers lying on the ground I continued my journey. Not long were left to I were at my destination. The World’s Edge Mountains. The best way I can describe this is mountains. Lots and lots of them. Snowy on the top, and grey stone everywhere else. After a few days search I found what I seeked – a volcano. With a rope I climbed down the crater, as long as I could come without getting burned to death. I used my magic to get a small amount of lava into the enchanted vial I had with me. Quickly I climbed up again.
Now began my next journey – To the great ocean. There I had to find the deepest of the deep water to find a special plant which only grows there. The minurus florus.. I arrived safely at The Great Ocean. As I had no ship, I built a boat. My destination was a bit south of Ulthuan. There were the deepest ocean I knew of, and I hoped the plant grew there.I sailed for a few days until I got near Ulthuan. Unfortunately, I wasn’t alone around there. A high-elf ship had spotted me, and they sent a pair of great eagles after me. I knew that I didn’t stand a chance against these high elf creatures, and even how embarrassing it was to flee from high elves I had to. I had a potion with me, which would make me able to breath under water for a couple of hours. I drank it quickly, and then jumped in the water. I swam the best I had learned. I got deeper and deeper into the water. The water got darker and colder the further I got in. Even the fish looked different. It was a very strange feeling to breathe water as it was air. I came to the buttom of the sea, where the minurus florus grew everywhere. It was like a dark purple rose. I picked a few, and then stood still. Shortly after I began to float higher and higher up again. Some minutes after I erupted at the surface. The ship was gone, and so were the eagles. Ulthuan was near, and I knew that I had to swim over there to build a new boat.
Shortly after I were at Ulthuans coast. I began my work with building the new boat. On the third day of construction, a pack of high elf warriors found me. Without delay they charged me. With a grin on my face, I started to cast a spell. This time they didn’t have some pitiful eagle. And they were only 3. Lightning sprung from my fingertips, leaving one charred body. Another spell was cast, and black tentacles sprang from the ground, pulling one screaming High elf into the ground, never to be seen again. However, before I could cast the last spell needed, the only living high elf were at me. As he swung his sword as me, I made an agile maneuver, dodging the attack. With my staff, I knocked him off his feet. When he felt, I hit him continuously in his head until there were nothing but a bloody mess there. I finished my boat, and set off for The Inevitable City.
It was clear that chaos reigned over this territory. I saw this first when I was even far away from it. The game was bigger and fiercer. The trees had their branches twisted as in pain. I came closer and things were even more mutated. There were stones and even whole trees hovering. The terrain started to get new colors. The ground were red or purple and the trees even blue somewhere. It culminated in the city. Spires everywhere in no order at all. Nothing were symmetric. It was like the gods had thrown a handful of bones on the ground, smashed them with a hammer and then raised them as gargantuan buildings. However, blue was a color that was most places. Blue and gold. I met the followers of chaos here: Mighty magi on discs, chaos chosens in giant amours, fanatic zealots with skulls hanging everywhere and muscular marauders with terrific mutations.
“Are you Crysania?” asked a deep male voice. I quickly turned around. I saw a giant man entrapped in an ancient armor with runes everywhere. His eyes glowed purple but it shifted nuances constant. “Yes” I replied. “I am to escort you to The Magus Tower immediately. The name is Malifact.” Malifact started to walk and I followed. “The last test awaits in the tower.” He showed me the way over there and waited outside. I entered the building. Inside waited three magi and three sorceresses. “Good to see you here, young sorceress” said one of the sorceresses. “Your test here is simple. You have to defeat a high elf mage, and we 6 will count as judges.” I were joyful. Maybe the High Elf mages were strong, but a chance to defeat one of the most powerful mages in the world? High elves were among the best. Nothing compared to dark elves of course but still very strong. She entered the arena where the high elf already was waiting in the opposite end. He looked very afraid, knowing his doom was near. As he saw me, he fired a fireball against me. I pointed my staff forward, catching the fireball, turned around in a circle and threw it back against him. With his staff he stroke it away and out of the arena. It was my turn. Quickly I blew a chilling wind at him, leaving him shivering of cold. Even with his cold lips, he managed to make a fire shield around himself. With the frost away from him, he began to cast a new spell. A bolt of pure light sprung from the tip of his staff. I made a magic shield around myself, absorbing the bolt as it came. I mumbled a few words, and lightning sprung from me to him. It was absorbed by the fire shield around him; however the shield faded leaving him vulnerable to my next attack. Even weakened, he cast a new spell. Roots came up from the earth, entangling me. It was impossible to move my hands, so I had only my mouth and words. I said a few words, and my hands caught fire. I burned the roots away from me, and ran towards the mage. He cast his next spell, and suddenly a swarm of knives appeared in front of him, flying towards me. I quickly made a shield around myself. All the knives fell harmlessly to the ground except one. The one hit me in my arm, leaving a bleeding wound. Angry I charged him. We clashed together, and both hit and parried with our staves. I hit his staff with such power that the staff flew out of my hands. However, his did too. I put my burning hands on each side of his head, and he started to burn. He screamed in terror and pain. “Die, die, die!” I repeated over and over. I let go of his head, and he fell dead to the ground. I walked out of the arena where the 6 spell casters waited for me. “Congratulations,” one of the magi said. “You have passed the test.”
I were a sorceress in all my rights. Outside Malifact waited. I smiled to him. “I am now a sorceress!” I said proudly. He looked at me a long time. “I could use one of your kind,” He said after a long break. “You see, I am gathering this host. Invicto, we are called. We have fought many battles, but ultimately our leader, Osiris, died. The host parted. Now, in these times of war, Invicto is needed once again, and as previous Daemon Prince, it is now me that is Sol Invictus, the great leader. We now call us self: Invicto Incarnate!” Malifact in the end talked with such power in his voice that I was convinced. “Yes Malifact. I will join your cause. When war come, I will be ready, and I will have gathered as many of my fellow druchii as I can. We will stand together, side by side. Here,” I said and gave him a talisman. “When the time is ready you activate this talisman. Then I will be ready, and all my fellow druchii too.” Then I left him and traveled home to Naggaroth. And here I am now, gathering all the followers I can. War will come. And we will be ready. Invicto Incarnate will stand strong. Under one banner we will fight. Invicto Incarnate will live forever.
